🔐 Set Up Google Authenticator for Gmail

  1. Sign in to your Google Account

  2. Go to Security Settings

    • On the left sidebar, click Security.

    • Under "How you sign in to Google", select 2-Step Verification.

  3. Enable 2-Step Verification

    • Click Get Started.

    • Enter your Gmail password again to confirm.

    • Follow the prompt to set up your first verification method (usually SMS or Google prompt).

This step is required before adding the Authenticator app.

  4. Set up Google Authenticator

    • After enabling 2-Step Verification, scroll down to Authenticator App.

    • Click Set up Authenticator.

    • Choose your phone type (Android or iPhone).

    • A QR code will appear on your screen.

  5. Add the QR Code to Google Authenticator

    • On your phone, open the Google Authenticator app.

    • Tap the + button → choose Scan a QR code.

    • Scan the QR code displayed on your computer.

    • A 6-digit code will appear in your app.

  6. Verify

    • Enter the 6-digit code from Google Authenticator into your Google Account setup page.

    • Click Verify → Done ✅

  7. Backup Codes (Important)

    • Google will give you backup codes. Save them in a safe place in case you lose access to your phone.

After this, every time you log in to Gmail, you’ll be asked to enter a 6-digit code from Google Authenticator (or use backup codes if needed).
