Sign in to your Google Account
Log in with your Gmail account.
Go to Security Settings
On the left sidebar, click Security.
Under "How you sign in to Google", select 2-Step Verification.
Enable 2-Step Verification
Click Get Started.
Enter your Gmail password again to confirm.
Follow the prompt to set up your first verification method (usually SMS or Google prompt).
This step is required before adding the Authenticator app.
Set up Google Authenticator
After enabling 2-Step Verification, scroll down to Authenticator App.
Click Set up Authenticator.
Choose your phone type (Android or iPhone).
A QR code will appear on your screen.
Add the QR Code to Google Authenticator
On your phone, open the Google Authenticator app.
Tap the + button → choose Scan a QR code.
Scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
A 6-digit code will appear in your app.
Verify
Enter the 6-digit code from Google Authenticator into your Google Account setup page.
Click Verify → Done ✅
Backup Codes (Important)
Google will give you backup codes. Save them in a safe place in case you lose access to your phone.
After this, every time you log in to Gmail, you’ll be asked to enter a 6-digit code from Google Authenticator (or use backup codes if needed).
